The largest and most frequented of these celebrations are in London. They happen at several places officially and there are also many unofficial goings on. The Mayor of Londons Headquarters has given a small amount of funding to assist with these events and has also allowed Trafalgar Square to be used.

Trafalgar Square has the main stage in it. It is situated across from the National Gallery. The closest underground stop to this is Charring Cross, as it has an exit on the Square. Here authentic performers from China and local entertainers will perform traditional Lion dances and delight people with different mediums. Because its a central London Square it is a renoun travellers hot spot in its own right. But it becomes even more colourful as the Chinese community get together with us. This is a no ost to you happening for all of your family to enjoy for sure.

China Town itself will have three Lions dancing along the streets.

Local Kung Fu schools originally did the Lion dancing and most of the movements come from this art. The objective of these Lions dances is to pluck the vegetables that are hung from local shops and restaurants. This is said to give good fortune to the owners in the New Year. Traditionally the vegetables got hung at a great height. This would make it difficult for all but the best performers to pick. Traditionally red envelopes were a prize given to the best dancers. They consisted of a money gift for the Lion dancers if it was successful. There is also much colourful beautification and lots of other festivities transpire. These envelopes are also given to the young by elders as a New Year present.

The origins of this London Chinatown stem from no further back than in the nineteen seventies. But, as a centre stage for Chinese businesses, food and civiliation it has no parallel in the UK. Additionally many nearby eating houses will offer a special new years carte to the public. Originally this is a fish dish but lots of  other courses are also available. So everyone can join us with your family to enjoy the dance and next a fabulous eat while you celebrate the Chinese new Year.
